The Wildlife of IIM Lucknow!!!

was wondering for a long time on what to write next. yesterday nights incident gave me a chance to fill this useless blogpage...

the plush green IIM Lucknow campus (200 acres in all) houses a jungle in the center. in recent times, wildlife started drifting out of the jungle. could the reason for these instances be the building of the new GMP hostels which is eating away into a small part of the jungle? this part though small is very important as it forms a link between two big patches of the jungle. this construction divides the huge jungle into two small pieces, restricting the movement of these animals.

The yellow patch you see in the IIML map above is the place where the new hostel is getting constructed. this clearly divides the forest into two parts as shown on the left and right sides of the construction site.

All i wonder is, what is gonna happen to this place when more jungle is devasted to build in new hostels and class rooms in next few years to accomodate the increased batches of students thanks to the OBC reservations (sorry if this statement is offensive!!! but i have my own reasoning)

now to hear about some wildlife of IIM Lucknow... this place is inundated with a number of birds like peacocks, kuils, mynahs, woodpeckers... also the seasonal visitors like cranes.
there was word that a fox was once seen a little away from the main gate. Personally i have seen a nilgai. it is a wild animal frmo the cow family and is much larger than the domestic cow.

sorry, the picture is not very clear. but the animal is very huge.

recently my neighbours have seen a huge sized chamaleon in their balcony. my personal experience is the night when i went jogging alone and saw two porcupines cross the road a little in front of me. another recent visitor is the huge monitor lizard that roams the new hostel 13.

this is the picture of the monitor lizard which is atleast 5 feet in length. it is an expert in crawling walls

talking of these reptiles, snakes are not very uncommon on campus.

this is the picture of the russell viper that lives near hostel 5. this is only an example and there are many instances of snakes being spotted at different points of time.

lastly! coming to the reptile spotted yesterday. a huge python.

the above pics show parts of the about15 feet long python spotted yesterday near the director's residence.

after so many animals, no idea what the next one is gonna be!!!

philosophy....

Philosophy??? yuck!!! its all globe!!! (in iiml jargon: globe means arbit stories to fill up space)

philosophy is all senseless talk which ppl try to talk in order to make sure that they look well educated... these were my ideas of philosophy till a couple of days back... then i meet this guy who joined iiml recently... the discussion started of with this bharathiyar's poem i would have heard and appreciated hundreds of times... but alas!! i never cared to know its meaning... this guy explains me the meaning and BAMM.... i am left flabberglasted with the beauty in its meaning and the suttlety in certain lines...

the topics ten moved on to more serious ones like vedas, god, universe, philosophy etc... the way these issues were put forward by this person so nicely thatinstead of me uling them off as globe, not only did i listen to him but also debated few philosophical issues with him... few of my ideas really made me doubt if it was me toking all the time....

new knowledge was showered over me... to tell the truth, it was the first time that i actually found out what philosophy meant...

later on, we moved on to his creative skills with art... few might be deprived enough to see them as good artwork... few might recognise them as good pieces of art... but what is to be seen is the thought process that has gone behind those art work and the volumes of meaning and sense hidden in such a small art work...

thanking praveen ravi for the new ways of looking at life that he had taught me...

Lord Krishna reincarnates??

On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, just a quote from bhagavad gita...

"Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya Glanirbhavathi Bharatha
Abhyukthanam adharmasya Thadathmanam Srujamyaham.”
“Parithranaya Sadhunam Vinashaya cha Dhushkrutham
Dharma samsthapanarthaya Sambhavami Yuge Yuge"

for all those who live on iiml campus and understands the above quote: has the lord reincarnated?

i am an open book....

"adi, U are a bundle of secrets..." these were the words that came out of the archives of my mind recently... some one in the past felt i was a box of secrets... i dont remeber who said this and when... but the words, i do remember...

but now the real question is, am i really that secretive... i strongly feel the answer is NO... i feel i am an open book... and in fact, so simple a book, that u wont even need a dictionary to understand it...

but this confidence in me, set me to thinking... why would someone feel that i am not an open person... it didnt take long to find the answer... when there is no good means of communication, such false conclusions can be very easily drawn...

after finishing with problem definition and identification of the cause, the next step is designing solution.. how do i make sure that in the future such comments r not passed... well, i thought a blog could be a good means of communicating my personal feelings and happenings...

a few blogs like those of venkat, harsha and above all puneet and also many others have been very impressive enough... i cant promise my blogs to be as good as their's... but will give it my best shot...

hoping this enthu of mine will continue in keeping this place regularly updated...

@harsha... sorry dude, cant come up with any more fun stuff like chanchunsaurus.... but can keep u updated with the things in my life...

keep waiting for the next post,
aditya

P.S: and also hoping this is the last time anyone calls me a bundle of secrets...

chanchunsaurus...

After reading the recent article that the chinese have named the new species of the extinct animal found on their land, the minster of state (independent charge) for science and technology, Mr. Kapil Sibal commented as follows: "only if it was in India, i would have named it soniasaurus". no wonder its predecessors would be named indirasaurus and rajivsaurus and its succesors as priyankasaurus and rahulsaurus. this statement was immediately followed by " science and technology is a very important portfolio. it should have a cabinet minister to take charge and not minister of state". wishing Mr. Sibal good luck, the report moved on to print the news.
the release of this news gave jobless newspaper editors some subject to create masala news upon and reporters were rushed to the parliament and residences of famous leaders. Mr. Chandra Babu Naidu reacted that the current congress govt of AP is corrupt and will not last more than a day. then he would become the CM and name the dino as cyberasaurus.
Minister of Commerce who didnt hear the questioncorrectly and was in a hurry gave his prompt one sentence reply "the SEZ shall be granted".
Mr. Kumaraswamy the new Karnataka CM reacted that he is busy adjusting to his new post and continued "we are busy in the process of renaming bangalore to benguluru. to name this animal all i have to do is to find out what it is called in kannada and name it." Reporters are on the way to deputy CMs residence to record his criticism.
The leaders of the tamil land were busy campaigning and couldnt be contacted. but the offices of the two rivals came up with the names of kalaingarsaurus and ammasaurus respectively.
when the same question was put to the rail minister, he asked why should there be a new name when it already has the name dinosaurus. Some reporters claim to have overheard Ms.Rabri behind him asking their daughter Khursi "ye dennocharus ka howat hai" to which the kid replied "woh bara chipkali howat hai" (it is a big lizard).
the left front announced the names of leninsaurus, stalinsaurus and marxsaurus. within half an hour they reverted back saying these names were already used to name the species discovered in russia and china and hence they withdraw their previous statements.
the international correspondent from nepal reported that the new interim PM Mr. Koirala announced that he would rather name a dinosaurus discovered in Nepal after maoists, but never after the king.
Over the phone, when General Musharraf was asked "If a dinosaurus discovered in Kashmir is named Indiasaurus, how would you react." A prompt reply came "Kashmir is an integral part of Pakistan. we would not recognise any name given by India. We would give it our own name, whether India recognises it or not. Actually we are thinking about renaming Kashmir and all its cities.
In the BJP camp, Mr. L. K. Advani claims that history holds proof that these animals were devotees of lore Rama and have helped him build a bridge from India to Lanka and fight Ravana. When he was informed that the discussion was about dinosaurus he said he has no comments.
But Arjun Singh did not make any hearing mistake. He clearly emphasized that Dinos also observed reservations in forests and trees for most backward class dinos.
Ms. Menaka Gandhi couldnt be reached for a long time. Finally when she was traced, she empathised " the politicians and media are making fun of the names of these poor creatures. It is a huge torture to these poor little creatures, when they know about it." when a reporter informed her that these animals were sadly extinct, Ms. Menaka claimed that it is a failure of the congress government for not being able to protect these animals. It took a long time to explain her that these animals were extinct long back.
